We asked leaders in the Canadian geospatial community what GeoAlliance Canada membership would mean to them. Representatives from education, non-profit associations and the private sector gave their thoughts on how a national umbrella organization might help them thrive, what projects they’d like it to take on, and who else they think should become a member.

What are some of the issues you currently face that you believe a national umbrella organization would help address? Can you identify your top priority?

Awareness of Geomatics in the younger generation especially. Our top priority is to have younger generation to understand Geomatics career path and explore what Geomatics can offer to them.

How would you rate your current success in collaborating with like-minded organizations across the country? Do you think GeoAlliance membership would help facilitate better communication and collaboration?

SAIT has been collaborating with AGG, ALSA and others for Geomatcis awareness events. However, these organizations are Alberta-based and it would be a great opportunity to partner with other groups which are not only Alberta based. GeoAlliance membership could help facilitate these partnerships especially introducing organizations to each other and involving all for the same event.

What is one project you'd like to see undertaken in GeoAlliance Canada’s first year?

A Nationwide Geomatics Event or series of events to get people familiar with Geomatics and provide opportunities to show them what are the post-secondary education options in Canada for Geomatics career.

Name one group (apart from your own) that you'd like to see become a GeoAlliance Canada member. Why them?

Any groups and post-secondary education institutions related to Geomatics should be part of the alliance. That will benefit everyone. We can use this opportunity to join our forces to create awareness of Geomatics.

Would your organization be willing to partner with GeoAlliance Canada and/or other organizations to achieve specific goals requiring additional resources/funding?

Partnering with other organizations makes events more powerful and strong. Also, it helps sharing resources, costs, sharing funding for the common goal.
